Other Worlds Vol.2

Like I said in this post I'm not really into playing video games at all, but I do enjoy the ones that take place in a well designed, beautiful little world. My boyfriend IS into playing them, so through him I get to see some really neat ones.

Proteus is a new game that is “procedurally generated”, which I guess is the hot new thing. That means that the whole world of the game is created as it's being played, rather than being pre-designed. Even though the graphics are  simple I think it's very beautiful . Also the music is gorgeous.

Braid is one that's been around for a while and I know it has a lot of fans. The exciting and innovative thing about it is that you interact with time itself, and time behaves differently in each level. From watching over my boyfriends shoulder I feel like if I did try to play this one it would confuse the hell out of me, but I do like the look and feel of it. There is something rather melancholy...maybe it's the music!

Have you played any of these? Are there any other interesting games I should know about?

  1. I have been "playing" this interactive story by Tale of Tales and it seems like something you would enjoy: http://tale-of-tales.com/bientotlete/

  2. Hi!

My sweetheart turned me on to Machinarium (Robots! the illustration looking scenery!) and Botanicula; which I think you might like, since it's about plants and different types of stories intertwining and going on adventures to figure out how to progress the story while exploring different types of ecosystems and creatures!

    Happy Valentines Day!

I really enjoy reading your blog and seeing your process and work.
